HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY
How did a cute lion get on the table? I was having a wonderful birthday, when I hugged my son and looked over his shoulder to see a darling Valentine Lion. He had placed the lion on the table as a birthday surprise and didn't say a word. I just love his surprise, but most of all I love him for coming home for my birthday.
The red roses in the crystal vases are accented with pink and red glitter hearts. The two clear crystal vases can be moved before the meal for our romantic conversation!
The close-up of the red roses brings into view the glitter hearts and babies breath.
The fun of this tablescape began with the red heart shaped place mats I found at T J Maxx. I started to just rearrange my Valentine's Day decorations from storage, but I found these cute pink square Valentine plates. I was shopping at Tom Thumb and the mugs, plates and bowls were in the decorations for Valentine's Day display. The birds are just tweeting about love!
Our meal will be served on the pink square plates and the pink heart shape plates will be used as a serving plate.

The red napkins are accented with the white stitching which seems to
give a romantic touch.
I know some have talked about the difficulty of using a round place mat with their flatware. I like the way the knife and spoon touch both the colors of the white tablecloth and the red and white heart place mat. It shows off the silverware's red handles.
I couldn't help falling in love with the bird shape bowls. I plan on using them for soup and placing the bowl on the square plate. For the photos, I placed the bowls and soup spoons above the plates. I am aware the soup spoon goes to the right of the plate, but I am taking license for the sake of the blog photos.
I saw the goblets with the pink Valentine hearts at Home Goods and thought those will be great with hearts on the pink square plates. I also picked up the red flutes with the heart shape stem at Dollar Tree. What is Valentine's Day without hearts?
I always like some bubbles in a pretty glass.

As dessert course, we will have a special hazelnut flavored coffee. On one end of the table, I placed a antique tray covered with a red napkin. The tray holds five bird motif mugs for I am only having five for the occasion. Coffee will be served with the dessert. I am using my pink Johnson Brother's Britain Castle coffee pot. The red dessert plates are stacked on a metal server. I usually serve hot tea but coffee seemed to be a nice fit.
As a dessert course, I have replaced the glassware with the Valentine mug. The pink heart shaped plate is used as a charger for the red dessert plate.
Here is a peek at our dessert! I will light our bird shape Valentine votive to add a romantic feel to the atmosphere.
Nothing says romance on Valentine's Day than chocolates. The server is a special antique pink frosted round fan shape glass stand on a metal foot. I have chosen individual servings of American chocolates. Our family has visited Hersey, Pa. and San Francisco, Ca. where both of these companies are in business.
